Gwyn Downey

Gwyn Downey has a Bachelor’s of Music Theory & Composition and over 30 years experience teaching and performing throughout the Chicagoland area. Her mother was her mentor and she lead her to love music.

She currently plays principal bassoon with the Park Ridge Orchestra and Fox Valley Orchestra, and Chicago Folks Operetta. She also has performed for the radio program entitled “Exploring Music” which is a classical radio program broadcasting throughout the United States.

She teaches bassoon at Elgin Community College and Judson University. She plays piano at her church, accompanies church choirs, solo instrumentalists, performs in faculty recitals and is a member of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association (ISMTA) where she attends state and national conferences.

She has performed with the Rockford Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, The Mozart Festival Orchestra, Illinois Philharmonic, Northbrook Symphony, Evanston Symphony, Musica Lumina Orchestra and New Philharmonic.
