Uptown Music offers piano and voice lessons, ensemble coaching, and theory and history tutoring. Performance students of all ages, beginning through intermediate levels, are welcome! I am a big fan of Piano Safari’s well-researched and holistic approach to piano instruction and musicianship. Tutoring in theory, history, research methods, and writing about music is available through the post-graduate level.

Here is a little bit more about me, Sarah Town:

Originally classically trained in piano and voice, today Sarah’s performance repertoire and research interests range from Bach and art song through jazz, Latin, folk, and popular music. As a pedagogue, she works with students to identify their interests and motivation for music study, and then curates materials that will help them meet those goals. She favors a holistic approach that bolsters students’ strengths while addressing their growth areas. Regardless of the student’s area of study, she seeks to foster creativity and inspiration alongside technical development.

Sarah’s teaching experience includes: San Francisco Arts Education, City College of New York, Passaic County Community College, Princeton University, Duke University, Global Arts to Go, Skylark Music, Triangle Music School. Sarah’s performance experience includes: sarah y su cachito (New York), Raices Cultural Center (New Jersey), Women’s Voices Chorus (Chapel Hill, NC). She teaches out of her home in Durham, NC.
